Building a website for a Staten Island carpet cleaner

Steam Vac Green cleans carpets, rugs and upholstery on Staten Island with eco-friendly products. The business was relaunching after a pause with one van, and the owners wanted a website where customers could book a cleaning without calling.

I built it through my studio, Baikal Studios. It went live on October 7, 2026.

Start with how they already work

Before I designed anything, I watched the recordings of their calls with Housecall Pro, the software they picked to run jobs, quotes and invoices. Those calls answered half my questions. They wanted customers to pick a service, add photos of the stain or the couch, and choose a time. Housecall Pro already does that, so the site embeds its booking menu. Bookings land in the same app their office already uses, and nobody copies anything from an email.

A static site on Cloudflare

The site is plain HTML and CSS. No WordPress, no plugins to update, no monthly page-builder bill. It runs on Cloudflare’s free plan, and every change I push goes live in about a minute.

The first version lived on Netlify. Netlify paused our deploys when the account ran out of build credits, so I moved it to Cloudflare. The domain also pointed at an old Cloudflare account nobody could log into, which showed visitors a 526 error.

Local SEO from day one

Most of their customers search “carpet cleaning Staten Island.” So every page title and description names the service and the borough. The homepage tells Google the business name, phone, address and service area in a format it reads directly (LocalBusiness schema). The FAQ page answers the questions customers ask on the phone: drying time, pets, prep, and whether they move furniture.

I also run a weekly check for broken links and missing pages. It caught two problems on this site I had shipped myself, and I wrote them up in The SEO checks I run on my sites every Monday.

Ads that target real customers

I run their Meta ads. Facebook pushes you toward its automatic “Advantage+” audience, which shows your ad to whoever Facebook picks. I skip it. Their ads go to Staten Island residents aged 45 and up, the people most likely to book a carpet or upholstery cleaning. The best ad brings in leads at $7.99 each.

What’s next

Next up: their own before-and-after photos from real jobs, pages for the areas they serve beyond Staten Island, and more customer reviews on their Google Business Profile.
